About the location and site
Garang Heng or Karen Heng is a circular patch reef 4 km east of Phi Phi Leh. It is a solitary reef in open water away from any karsts or islands. The completely submerged reef rises 6m below the surface and descending down as deep as 24m. It is an easy dive site with mild currents. Around the base of the reef is a mixture of hard and soft corals with some barrel sponges, and lots of sea fans and anemones. Garang Heng is a great site for watching lionfish interacts with the reef. Amongst large shoals of baitfish, they glide over the beds of anemones near the top of the reef and rest at the base of the gorgonian sea fans. Yellowfin barracuda, turtles, and seasnakes are all common here, as well as numerous dog-faced pufferfish, moorish idols, bannerfish and many other reef fish. Banded sea snakes are also sometimes seen here

The seabed is predominantly sandy with a
shallow drop-off continuing away from the reef. At deeper reaches, you can
watch leopard sharks dozing among the seawhips. Occasionally a ribbon tail
stingray puts in an appearance.
